What is the Drivetrain on a Motorcycle? Chain vs. Belt vs. Shaft …

The drivetrain on a motorcycle is a group of parts that deliver the power from the engine to the rear wheel. The motorcycle drivetrain consists of three separate units, the primary drive, the transmission (gearbox), and the final drive. The primary drive includes the clutch assembly, the roller chain or belt, and the engine output sprocket. The final drive can be a chain, belt, or shaft …

Chain VS Belt VS Shaft Drive | What's The Difference?

Chains are also known to not run as smoothly or as quiet as belt or shaft driven motorcycles. BELT DRIVE. Belt drives are built similar to chain drives. Belts are made of a strong rubber-like synthetic material that has teeth or grooves on the inner side. Two pulleys, one on the gearbox's output shaft and another on the rear wheel, are used ...

A review on belt and chain continuously variable transmissions (CVT

Moreover, since belts tend to slip more than chains, the efficiency of a belt CVT system was observed to be lower than that of a chain CVT especially at high transmission ratios. It was also reported that the belt CVT drive exhibits lower contact forces at the pulleys and smaller polygonal vibrations in comparison to a chain CVT drive.

Belt, rope and chain drives | PPT

2. The belts or ropes are used to transmit power from one shaft to another by means of pulleys which rotate at the same speed or at different speeds. The amount of power transmitted depends upon the following factors : Velocity of the belt. Tension under which the belt is placed on the pulleys. Arc of contact between the belt and the smaller pulley.

Like he said. Nothing about the belt vs shaft aspect is really specific to tractors, so belt-drive info is probably sufficient. But for practical purposes, I suspect you wouldn't see a significant difference between belt and shaft input, the tranny itself plays a much bigger role. Though admittedly, I don't know why you're looking for this info.

Chain Drive vs Shaft Drive vs Belt Drive

Belt, chain and shaft drive all have their strengths and weaknesses (so to speak). Belts are limited in their strength by their width, which is why you usually only see them on low-powered engines like cruisers and dual-sports. Belts are the most efficient way of transmitting power from the transmission to the rear wheel, and very low maintenance.
